In his manifesto document, the former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Charles Soludo, made a promise to embark upon an expansive but phased modernization and urban renewal of major urban areas, starting with Awka, Onitsha, Nnewi, and Ekwulobia urban areas. Specifically, he promised to transform Ekwulobia into a model city through the construction of a flyover, a modern bus terminal, adjoining roads, security building, and a fire station, among others.

Fast forward to March 2023, it is safe to say that Soludo's promise is "IN THE WORKS." This is because he has already activated the process of transforming Ekwulobia into a model city, as evidenced by the flagging off of the construction of a flyover, a modern bus terminal, adjoining roads, security building, a fire station, and others. The project is being handled by a reputable company - AG Vision Construction Limited, and the flyover, which is about 300 meters long, will span from Nanka to Uga. It is expected to be delivered in the next 18 months.

Furthermore, the construction of the flyover, modern bus terminal, and other facilities in Ekwulobia will bring about ease of movement from Anambra into Imo State through the Uga-Akokwa corridor. This will significantly reduce travel time and enhance connectivity between the two states.

Overall, it is commendable that Soludo's promise to transform Ekwulobia into a model city is in progress. If completed as planned, the project will not only enhance the aesthetic value of the city but also improve the socio-economic wellbeing of the residents. Therefore, it is important for the government and stakeholders to provide the necessary support and resources to ensure the successful completion of the project within the stipulated timeframe.
