The Makurdi-Taraba-Borno rail project is a significant railway initiative aimed at connecting Makurdi in Benue State to Jalingo in Taraba State and Maiduguri in Borno State. This rail network holds great potential for opening up the region, attracting both local and foreign investors, and improving the quality of life for the people residing in these states.

During President Muhammadu Buhari's 2019 electoral campaign, he made a promise to the people of Taraba that his administration would undertake the construction of this rail project. The pledge was made with the intent to enhance productivity and facilitate economic growth in the region. However, since the promise was made, the federal government has not taken any substantial action, such as engaging contractors or raising funds, to fulfill this commitment.

Considering the lack of progress made on this front, we assess President Buhari's promise to be BROKEN. Despite the potential benefits of the Makurdi-Taraba-Borno rail project, the current administration has failed to initiate the necessary steps to bring it to fruition. The absence of any contractor involvement or funding mechanisms leaves the promise unfulfilled and raises concerns about the government's commitment to addressing the development needs of the region.

It is crucial to hold the All Progressives Congress accountable for this campaign promise, particularly those that directly impact the lives of citizens and hold potential for economic growth. The Makurdi-Taraba-Borno rail project, with its anticipated benefits, remains an unmet commitment that demands attention and action from the federal government. The Buharimeter rates the promise as BROKEN, highlighting the need for renewed efforts to ensure the construction of this vital rail network.
