Promises Kept: President Tinubu Delivers on Youth Inclusion

In the world of politics, promises made by leaders are often met with scepticisms. However, it is equally important to acknowledge when these promises are not just words, but actions that shape the future. President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's commitment to youth inclusion in his cabinet was one such promise that stirred hope among Nigeria's youth.

In his manifesto, President Tinubu pledged to reserve at least three cabinet positions for individuals below the age of 40 and an additional six positions for those under the age of 50. This promise was a testament to his belief in the potential of young minds and the importance of diverse perspectives in governance.

As we scrutinised the list of ministerial nominees, the initial assessment revealed a diverse collection of individuals. While there were some nominees who met the criteria, the promised numbers were yet to be fully kept. The uncertainty surrounding the confirmation of Nasir El-Rufai from Kaduna, Stella Okotete from Delta State and Abubakar Sani Danladi from Taraba State added to the apprehension.

However, it is heartening to report that the President has responded to the calls for accountability. In a demonstration of commitment to his promise, three new ministers have been appointed to the cabinet.

Dr. Jamila Bio Ibrahim, born on February 7, 1986, at 37, represents the younger generation with fresh perspectives. Ayodele Olawande from Ondo, aged 34, brings youthful vigor and a keen understanding of contemporary issues. Abbas Lawal Balarabe, a 65-year-old from Kaduna, who will also bring depth and experience to the cabinet.

This development serves as a shining example of how advocacy and constructive engagement can lead to tangible results. It reaffirms the belief that leaders can transform promises into actions, and that accountability is a cornerstone of effective governance.

It should be recalled that on the 24th of August 2023, a few days after president Tinubu inaugurated his cabinet members into office, AdvoKC wrote to President Tinubu reminding him of his pledge to reserve at least three cabinet positions for persons under the age of 40, and 6 more positions for members under the age of 50. This letter was submitted to the state house as we awaited the president’s replacements to some of his ministerial nominees who were screened out by the senate.

AdvoKC Foundation commends President Tinubu for his commitment to a youth inclusive government. It is a promising step towards a Nigeria where the voices of the young are not just heard but valued.

As we celebrate this progress, we remain vigilant in our commitment to ensuring that promises are not just made but kept in their entirety. The promise of youth inclusion is a promise for a brighter and more inclusive future for Nigeria.

Together, we can continue to advocate for a government that listens to its people and works towards a more prosperous and equitable nation. We rate this Promise Kept
